Configuring Z-Wave Devices:

Z-Wave devices often have several configurable parameters which you can change using your Vera’s user interface. These parameters can include things such as the length of time a Z-Wave siren remains active for or the type of manual switch connected to a Z-Wave light controller.

Every available configurable parameter is listed in your device’s user manual. In most cases your device’s default parameters will be suitable to your needs however sometimes it may be necessary to adjust them to optimally use your device. A guide to configuring Z-Wave devices with Vera UI7 is available in the Manuals section.

Please note: If you are installing the entire Z-Wave™ system for the first time, please refer to the installation guide of your Z-Wave gateway before installing this device.

How many meters of single colour LED strip can be connected to each channel?
The power per meter is different from LED strip to LED strip. Some of the led density with W per meter listed below:

RGBW dimmer may have max 3,25A on each channel if multiple channels are connected.
  • 60 LEDs per metre, 8mm wide = 4.8w p/m -> on 12V = 0,4A on 24V = 0,2A -> on 12V you can add about 8m on 24V 16m per channel
  • 120 LEDs per metre, 8mm wide = 9.6w p/m -> on 12V = 0,8A on 24V = 0,4A -> on 12V you can add about 4m on 24V 8m per channel
  • 240 LEDs per metre, 10mm/12mm wide = 19.2w p/m -> on 12V = 1,6A on 24V = 0,8A -> on 12V you can add about 2m on 24V 4m per channel
  • 60 LEDs per metre, 10mm/12mm wide = 14.4w p/m -> on 12V = 1,2A on 24V = 0,6A -> on 12V you can add about 2,5m on 24V 5m per channel
    120 LEDs per metre, 10mm/12mm wide = 24w p/m -> on 12V = 2A on 24V = 1A  -> on 12V you can add about 1,5m on 24V 3m per channel

As you see the length of the LED strip depends on a few factors that as the W (density of LED per m) and V of the LED strip and maximum A on the RGBW Dimmer (this is constant and is 3,25A per channel), knowing this three factors you can calculate the meters that you will be able to add on every channel according to this (note for safety leave 10% headroom).

Maximum W per channel / W of led strip = total m of LED strip per channel (we will use the 4,8W LED strip per meter in the next example).

  • on 12V = 39W / 4,8W  =  8,125m (with 10% headroom 7,3m)
  • on 24V = 78W / 4,8W  = 16,25m (with 10% headroom 14,6m)

The five examples mentioned above you may find other densities per meter of the LED which will result in different power, which will result in different maximum meters.

2. What are the recommended characteristics for the power supply if we want to put max-length LED strips?

The first and the most important characteristic of the power supply is the V in case you will have 24V led strips you MUST have the power supply well stabilized and do not have to go over 25,5V in case you will have a poor stabilized power supply and the voltage will go over the mentioned value you will burn the security element in the RGBW and the device will be unusable.
The W as you may see from all mentioned above depends on the meters of led strips connected but if you’re looking for a maximum you can calculate from the data you already have so on 12V 39W per channel mean 156W in total and on 24V is 312W also here you MUST add some extra W to be safe and don’t let the power supply always run on maximum. This will result on the 12V a 170W power supply and or the 24V at least 340W.
